The Government put up a flag at the Middle Rock today.
Why do we raise the flag? We took the measures after we lost one Pulau, not Rock….Pulau, a situation of a typical Malay, “Sudah Terhantuk, Baru Tergadah.”
The raising of the flag was done in full ceremonial, witnessed by among others the First Admiral. I can never forget these words, said to me long time ago,“Don’t take flag easily, people die for the flag.”
Sadly, in three months time, like all the flags raised in Kuala Lumpur, this Flag of Batuan Tengah will spoil left to rot. No one will attend to replace it. No one will defend the flag from humiliation since we are known to do things “Hangat hangat tahi ayam.”
Below is a very most famous photo, taken on 23rd February, 1945, US Marines and US Navy raising the flag of United States atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima, World War II.
